Monday - Thursday: 9am - 4:30pm

WEBSITE DESIGN
What do I need to get a website?
you need three things:
1. a domain name
2. a web hosting account
3. a website design developed and published to the web
you also need to send through your content/text and any images you would like to appear on your website before we start the process.
How much does a website cost?
Simple question but no simple answer. It really depends on what you want to achieve with your website, the size of it and the functionality involved. Contact us for an estimate.
Costs to take into consideration:
Website design and development(one off cost)
Content management - optional (monthly cost depending on web products chosen)
Website hosting (monthly cost starting at $9.95)
Domain name (annual cost $49.95)
Are there on-going costs?
Yes, if you are not free parking your domain name, you will need to pay monthly hosting, and if you have any of the content management modules you will need to pay a small monthly licence fee. Monthly fees can range from $9.95 to over $100.
How long does it take to create a website?
Again, it depends on your requirements and complexity of your website idea. It can range from a couple of days to a couple of months. Generally most sites are completed within a month.
I only need a couple of words or images changed, can you do this?
Yes, we provide on going maintenance at a pro-rata rate.
Can you make changes to an already existing website?
Yes, as long as you can provide us with FTP details to your current site (if we didn't design/develop it initially).
I have already designed the visuals of my website, can you transform it into a website?
Yes! Just send through a layered psd or png. If you only have a jpg you will need to also send through the raw images that are included in it.
I already own a website, it does look a little old and out of date, can you re-design my existing website?
Over time the look/feel/focus of websites can go out of date. For websites to work to their full potential, they must be kept current and fresh - be reviewed on an annual basis. We can take a look at your website and provide you with a list of recommendations on how it can be improved and rebuild (and redesign) it where necessary.
WEBSITE DOMAIN NAMES
I only need a temporary website, can I do that?
Yes, you can pay for hosting and domain names for a minimum of 6 months at a time.
What is a domain name?
A domain name is a sequence of letters and numbers which determine the address of your site (i.e www.yourdomain.co.nz). You need to register a domain name before your web site becomes accessible at this address. You can also reserve a domain name for future use.
Can I have more than one domain name?
Yes, you can have as many as you like. You can use the extra domain names to redirect to your actual website (note: these extra domain names can be 'parked' and don't require a full hosting account).
Can I transfer my domain name to you?
Yes, you can! Its easier to manage when all your website components are all looked after in the one place.
.nz domains Domain names ending in .nz are managed by the New Zealand registrar.
In order to transfer a .nz domain name we require the following information
A UDAI number. A UDAI is a special key for the domain name that allows a hosting company to make changes to a domain name on your behalf : it is a random sequence of numbers and letters, eg "LdwiRDRd". You can request a UDAI from your current hosting provider. Note that if you have an old UDAI that has already been used it may not still be valid, or if you have created a newer one in the meantime, the old one will be also be made valid.
.com, .org, .net and other domains
When transferring a .com, .net or .org domain, the process differs for
different providers. If in doubt or you have any problems please
contact your provider's customer support for help with using their
systems:
In order to set up a .com .net or .org domain, the typical approach is:
- Provide us with an EPP Code (also referred to as an Auth Code or an Authorization Code) so we can initiate the transfer. The Authorization Code must be requested from your current domain host.
- Ensure the domain is unlocked, and ensure the registrant email address for the domain is set to an address which you check as the authorization transfer request will be sent there.
- When you have given us the Auth code we will initiate the transfer and you will receive an authorization transfer request email (addressed to the registrant of the domain)
- When you receive the email read it carefully and follow the 'Accept transfer' link. The transfer should then complete between 3 and 7 days.
I have a domain name but no website, can I still send email using the domain name?
You can, but you will need to sign up for the email-only hosting account for $4.95 a month (+GST).
WEBSITE HOSTING
What is website hosting?
When you want a website, you need to rent a space on the internet on which to place the files that make up your website, so others can view your site all over the world.
If I already have a website, can I change hosting to you?
Yes! As long as you have contact details of your current provider, who can supply you (or us) with FTP details. We can take care of it for you!
Can I view information about who's been visiting my site?
Yes! We provide you with daily and monthly website statistics with information such as:
Number of visitors
Search phrases used to find you
Most popular pages
Geographic location of visitors
Most popular entry and exit pages
Most popular referral sites
What is FTP?
FTP stands for File Transfer Protocol. FTP is a method to transfer files (documents, images etc) over the Internet from one computer to another. We FTP your files to a server so anyone can view your website on the web. You will have an FTP Address, Username and password.
Do I have to have a Content Management System (CMS)?
No, its entirely up to you. If the information on your site doesn't date/expire then you may not need to have a content management module. However, we do recommend your site becomes content managable so when your site requires a change, you are able to do so. Websites that are updated regularly are favoured by search engines (such as google). The alternative is for zDesign to manage your content - just let us know the changes you wish to make and we can do it on a pro-rata rate.
Can I update my website myself?
Yes! Updating your website on a regular basis is a great idea to keep it current and interesting. Once your website is built it's quite cost-effective. We can change any part of your website at any time, such as adding extra pages, adding photos or changing contact details. If you're interested in making changes to your website yourself, at any time of day or night take a look at our Content Management options, where you can modify elements of your website from your own browser, quickly and simply.
If I already have a website, can you make it content updatable?
Yes! Just provide us FTP details and leave it up to us.
If I want a content updatable website, do I have to install software onto my computer?
No, as its web based, you just need to log into a website to gain access. This means you can update your website, yourself, from any computer in the world - as long as its connected to the internet.
If I want a content updatable website, do you have to host the website?
Yes, as the code you require for the application is only accessible when your site is on our servers.
